Why Freshness Beats Fancy Gear
One of the simplest upgrades to your coffee has nothing to do with equipment.
It's tempting to think a better cup comes from better gear. Honestly, the bigger lever is almost always freshness.
Coffee is produce, not a pantry item
Roasted coffee starts losing its best flavour within a couple of weeks, and ground coffee fades within days. Buying whole bean and grinding just before brewing keeps far more of that flavour intact than pre-ground ever can.
Buy less, more often
It's counterintuitive, but a smaller bag bought more often beats a large bag that sits around. Aim to use what you buy within two to three weeks of the roast date.
Store it simply
Airtight, away from light and heat, and out of the fridge or freezer — temperature swings introduce moisture, which is the enemy here. A cupboard away from the stove is usually all you need.
None of this costs anything extra. It's just a habit — and it makes a bigger difference than almost any piece of gear will.
